Come Up Short in the
State Semi-Finals
Miami University Middletown Thunderhawks traveled to Newark, Ohio to participate in the ORC State Championships, Sat., Oct. 24 and Sun., Oct. 25, 2009. On Saturday, the Thunderhawks defeated OU Chillicothe for the third time this season in three straight sets (25-17, 25-22, and 25-22). Outstanding players of the match were Cailee Bryant with 11 kills/26 digs and Dana Hamblin with 13 kills/17 digs. On Sunday the Thunderhawks lost to OSU Newark in five hard fought games (23-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-15, and 12-15). Outstanding players of the match were Caliee Bryant with 14 kills/36 digs, Dana Hamblin with 22 kills/41 digs, Elaine Donges with 8 kills, and Brittany Balfour with 33 digs. The Thunderhawks played with determination throughout the State championships and ended the season on a high note.
The “Hawks” finished the season 11-7 and 6-2 in the conference. Dana Hamblin was named to the All Tournament Team.
