ThunderHawk Women Come Up ShortThe Lady ThunderHawks traveled to the University of Akron - Wayne College this weekend seeking to capture a first place finish in the Women’s Ohio Regional Campus State tournament which has eluded them since their last win in 2007, however, their quest fell short in a State Title loss to Miami Hamilton. In the State semi-final on Saturday afternoon, MUM erased a 5 point half-time deficit and won by 10, 87-77 over Ohio University Eastern. Ironically it was Eastern that defeated the Lady ThunderHawks in last season State Title game. MUM used a balanced attack to defeat the Lady Panthers; Brianne Thornton-20, Megan Costa-17, Miranda Alsept-15, Kristen Washington-10 and Kailey Ketterer-10. Ashley Heard grabbed 19 rebounds. In the State title game the Lady ThunderHawks played the Lady Harriers nose to nose the first 12 minutes of the game, however, the depth and quickness of the Lady Harriers took over as MUH built a 39-25 half-time lead that MUM could never erase, eventually losing 92-63. Thornton tossed in a game high 24, Costa -11, and Heard 10. Thornton was named to the All- Tournament team. MUM ended the season at 18-9 and back to back State Tournament Runner-Up finishes. The Lady ThunderHawks broke many of the existing school records during the season with the following accomplishments: Most Points in a season 2191 (old record 2014 set in 1998-1999) Brianne Thornton also surpassed the 1000 points scored in a career during the weekend State Tournament.
