XII. Cultural, Recreational, and Social Opportunities on Campus
- Multicultural Art Series
Miami Middletown's Multicultural Art Series offers a wide variety of cultural
events throughout the academic year. This year's schedule includes: Fantastic
Free Fridays, Film Festival, Scholarship Benefit Concert, and Casper Lecture
Series.
Fantastic Free Fridays
A series of one-hour programs beginning at 10 a.m. in the Dave Finkelman
Auditorium. Schools from a five-county area are invited to bring their students
to the campus to enjoy live performances, and the public is also invited to
participate. There is no admission charge and tickets are not required. If
a group of 15 or more desires to attend we do ask that you call the Artist
& Lecture Series in advance at 513-727-3345.
Film Festival
Friday afternoon screenings hosted by members of Miami Middletown's faculty
and staff are held throughout the semester.
Casper Lecture Series
The late Isidor Casper (Miami '32) endowed this lecture series in memory
of his parents. The Casper Lecture brings to Miami Middletown national and
international leaders from many fields. The series began in 1973 with Supreme
Court Justice William O. Douglas. Past Casper lecturers have included Nobel
Peace Prize recipient Oscar Arias, former British Prime Minister Sir Harold
Wilson, former Secretary of State Edmund Muskie, and author Jonathan Kozol.
The lectures are usually held in the spring and are free and open to the public.
- Recreational and Social Activities
Intramurals with students; volleyball, softball, etc. Outings with students
(i.e. Reds' games, dinner theater, canoe outings, etc.). Special parties (i.e.
holiday party, international dinners, etc.). Free tickets to intercollegiate
games are available to faculty and their immediate family.
Additional information is available in the Office of Student Affairs.
- Colloquia
Faculty, staff, and students gather periodically for presentations and discussions
of topics of interest. Announcements are made when programs are scheduled.
- Clubs and Organizations
Campus groups become recognized as official campus organizations when they
have an advisor and they benefit from a faculty member's interest and guidance.
If you would like to volunteer, or suggest a new organization, check with
Student Affairs.
