- Academic Advising
Students new to the Campus take an assessment test, and attend group sessions
to meet faculty advisors before registering for classes.
Continuing students are strongly encouraged to work with faculty advisors
in their disciplines to schedule appropriate course work. High risk and undecided
students will be advised by the staff in Student Services.
- Child Care
Miami University Middletown Early Childhood Center, located in Verity Lodge,
is available on a part or full time basis during the school year. No evening
or summer hours. The center also offers a two or three day a week Kindergarten
Readiness program as well as before or after care for kindergarten children.
Children 3 years to 6 years are eligible for the program. The center is open
to students, faculty, and staff of the university and to the community. Hours
of operation are 7:30am - 5:30pm Monday-Friday. The center is licensed by
the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.
- Counseling, Career Planning, and Placement and Internship Services
Students can seek confidential counseling or community referrals regarding
personal concerns or crisis intervention. The counselor will assist students
in developing, evaluating, and implementing career plans. Students will be
guided to use the resources of the Career Library and computer-assisted career
planning tools.
Students are assisted in using the campus resources to find employment (full-time,
part-time and on-campus) and internship/co-op opportunities. Jobs are posted
on a web site, listserv and job board. The staff reviews resumes and guides
students through the job search and interviewing process.
- Disability Services
Students who are disabled (learning, physical, psychological) are encouraged
to register with the Office of Disability Services in order to secure accommodations.
Accommodations may vary from extended time on exams, special furniture, and
test monitoring to taped texts and technology aids. Professors are encouraged
to put on their syllabi:
"Students with disabilities are encouraged to register with the office
of Disability Services. Under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973,
students with disabilities are eligible for accommodations."
- Learning Assistance
Through academic counseling and support classes in reading, writing, math
and study skills, the Learning Assistance Office helps students reach their
desired academic goals. There is an open math lab, and cost-free peer tutoring
in all subject areas. The professional staff includes both the Reading/Writing
and Math Specialists who work with students on an individual and small group
basis. Faculty are encouraged to refer students to this office when appropriate.
- Office of Multicultural Affairs
The philosophy of this office is to enhance the quality of campus life for
all students, by providing opportunities for a more diverse and culturally
enriching education. The coordinator is advisor to minority students and helps
them access proper resources, mentoring, and cultural programming. The coordinator
advises The Black Student Action Association, and helps strengthen ties with
the community and the Steps to Success Grant.
- Records and Registration
Miami University students have access to Bannerweb to register for classes,
and & drop classes, check the most up-to-date schedule offerings, search for
open classes, view or print their schedule, view or print end-of-term grades,
and view or print Degree Audit Reports (DARs). Students log into Bannerweb
at http://bannerweb.muohio.edu/
by entering their student ID number and PIN.
Students may also register via the touchtone telephone registration system,
"MUCARES" (Miami Call and Register Easily System). MUCARES is accessed by
dialing (513) 529-1717 from any touchtone telephone or by using the MUCARES
phones in the lobby of Johnston Hall.
Currently registered students may register during the dates published in
the course schedule. New freshmen and transfer students must attend an orientation
program in order to register for classes.
- Scholarship and Financial Aid
Miami University Middletown strives to achieve the goal that no student should
be denied an education because of a lack of funds. Various scholarship, grant,
loan, and work programs are available to assist students in meeting educational
costs. Faculty members are encouraged to refer students who have financial
difficulties, or who have experienced a major change in income due to unemployment,
disability, out-of-pocket or a death of a family income earner, to the Financial
Aid Office.
PLEASE NOTE: IF A STUDENT IS PLANNING TO DROP A COURSE OR COURSES FOR
ANY REASON AND THE STUDENT IS RECEIVING FINANCIAL AID, PLEASE REFER THE STUDENT
TO THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE SINCE THE STUDENT'S DECISION MAY HAVE A BEARING
ON THEIR ELIGIBILITY TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID IN FUTURE SEMESTERS.
A student must apply for financial aid each year. For most programs the student
must be enrolled for at least six credit hours in order to be eligible to
receive assistance. Questions about financial aid can be referred to the Financial
Aid office.
- Retention Services
Through the development and implementation of special programs, the Office
of Retention Services works to retain under prepared and academically challenged
students. These students are identified as those who are, low achieving, learning
disabled, first generation college. In addition, this office provides academic
advising to students and is responsible for working with faculty and staff
to develop awareness of retention services.
- Student Affairs Office
The Student Affairs Office includes Counseling, Career Planning and Placement/Cooperative
Education, Learning Assistance, Intramurals, Intercollegiate Athletics, and
Student Activities.
- Veterans Peer Advising
Veteran peer advisors are students who are separated from military service.
They inform the veteran about what to expect when (re)entering school. Advisors
explain educational benefits, assist in paperwork, pay problems and general
questions. Hours are posted each semester.
