VI. Additional Teaching Opportunities for Faculty

  1. Enrollment Contingent Courses
  2. Miami University Middletown is primarily a two-year campus with an assigned resident faculty and staff. Upper division and graduate enrollment contingent offerings are not budgeted against the Middletown Campus lower division courses and are scheduled during the day and evening by the regional campus and staffed by resident faculty members as well as part-time or overload faculty. Department chairs have primary responsibility for scheduling and staffing enrollment contingent courses with the advice of the academic coordinators. In some instances regional campus resident faculty can be assigned to an upper division or graduate course with the approval of the department chair. However, lower division regional campus requirements take precedence over enrollment contingent assignment in the utilization of regional campus faculty time.

  3. Summer School Assignments - Miami University Middletown
  4. Courses scheduled at Miami University Middletown are either offered on an enrollment-contingent basis or budgeted.

While a small portion of the summer course offerings may be budgeted, normally the courses will be staffed by Miami University Middletown faculty. If summer courses cannot be staffed by Middletown Campus faculty, coordinators and/or appropriate department chairs will be requested to locate an Oxford or Hamilton-based faculty member or a temporary instructor.

Faculty compensation for summer courses will be at the rate of 3% of base salary per contact hour taught. The maximum compensation for those teaching enrollment contingent courses or credit workshops is 30% of base earnings. Faculty compensation for teaching enrollment-contingent courses that do not achieve the appropriate enrollment target (15 paid enrollments for General Studies subsidy courses, 11 paid enrollments for most other subsidy categories) will be adjusted on a pro-rated basis.

  5. Non-Credit Continuing Education
  6. Faculty members are encouraged to offer non-credit courses, seminars, or workshops in their fields or area of interest for professional development or for personal enrichment of community members. To work out details of a proposal, budget, and salary, faculty should contact the Miami University Middletown Director for Continuing Education. Faculty also may consider credit workshop opportunities which are available.

  7. Off-Campus Teaching
  8. Beginning Spring 1995, the Middletown Campus has offered academic coursework at designated off-campus sites, including Miami Plan courses, business, personal enrichment, and technical educations courses. Faculty may contact their Chair or Academic Coordinator for information.
