V. Academic Advising
Students are encouraged to consult with their advisor throughout their academic career. Advisor assignments are given to new students with their assessment results. Advisors play a valuable role in helping students meet educational and career goals. All new students MUST have the signature of an advisor before registering. Continuing students should meet with an advisor before registering to better understand the Miami Plan, divisional requirements, and appropriate course selection. In addition to the University Bulletin and various departmental brochures, other advising aids are available to students:
- The DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) is a computerized system which
checks progress towards graduation and provides general information as to
course REQUIRED, TAKEN & NEEDED. The DARS also contains a complete copy of
the student's transcript. DARS reports are available on BANNERWEB.
- Students who do not have an advisor, or who wish to change advisors, should contact the Office of Student Services.
- Faculty questions regarding petitions, credits older than ten years, etc. can also be directed to Student Services.
