Miami University Middletown Duties and Responsibilities of Academic Coordinators

Communication, coordination, leadership roles
Note: Coordinators work with multiple departments (excepting only English); some work with multiple divisions and departments for courses scheduled at multiple sites.
- Establishing and maintaining lines of communications with university department chairs and academic program leaders in the areas of
- course scheduling
- annual review and evaluation of faculty leading to salary increment recommendation
- Assisting in the development and evaluation of the faculty, including:
- primary mentoring for probationary faculty, ongoing mentoring for other full and part-time faculty, being sensitive to individual professional needs and concerns
- assisting faculty in preparing promotion and tenure dossiers
- being responsible for the development of initial recommendations for promotion and tenure
- being responsible for writing annual evaluations
- developing specific salary recommendations based on annual evaluations with input from department chairs
- Recommending personnel needs in the various disciplines and assisting faculty hiring, including:
- initiating PAA's for teaching positions and assisting campus and department in recruitment plan and activities in support of search
- coordinating communication between campus and departments search committees
- assisting department chairs and the Office of the Dean in the review
of candidates for teaching positions
- recruiting and hiring part-time faculty
- Developing course schedules for all academic terms including:
- coordinating with Enrollment Services and the Associate Dean
- identifying staffing and initiating contracts for part-time faculty
- planning program offerings for the campus and extension sites
- Providing a leadership role for strategic planning and marketing including:
- planning and recommending, through approved channels, the introduction of new courses and curricula
- assisting in the promotion of new and existing academic programs
- assisting in the recruitment of students
- Assisting the Associate Dean in the management of the departmental instruction
portion of the operating budget in the disciplines for which the coordinator
is responsible, including
- maintaining monthly oversight on operating budgets for all departments in coordinatorship
- distribution of travel funds for professional development of faculty
- approval of purchase orders and LPOs for instructional support materials
- developing academic equipment requests
- Assisting the work of Corporate and Community Institute, on request,
- with the development and offering of non-credit courses, workshops, and seminars
- with the joint offering of credit courses with continuing education
- Assisting the Director of Learning Assistance and Academic Advising by
- assigning academic advisors and scheduling them for specified advising sessions
- facilitating strong working relationships between developmental education faculty and coordinatorship
- communicate importance of retention and success efforts
- Serve as an initial point of contact, referral, and a resource for
- student concerns and complaints
- initiating resolution of conflicts between students and faculty including those leading to disciplinary action
