Rusty Nails is a student organization that provides support and advice to students whose paths to college have not have followed the “traditional” storyline: graduate high school at 18 years of age; go to college the following Fall, get a job and a spouse four years later. Nails are Miami Middletown students who have returned to college after being out of school for some time. We are often in the workforce and/or raising families while we are taking classes.
As an organization, we try to make the trek through college as beneficial and as free from unnecessary stress as we possibly can. We do this by conveying what we’ve learned about policies and practices and people at Miami University, by sharing what we know about negotiating the demands of school, jobs, families, and play, and by letting other members of the campus community know who we are and what they might do to help ensure our academic success.
If you want to become involved or just eavesdrop on our conversations, contact Professor John Tassoni, our faculty advisor, at tassonjp@muohio.edu. He’ll sign you up on our email listserv, and you can decide from there what role, if any, you’d like to play.
