What Ails the Bengals
by Guy Moody
You can always tell how well the Bengals are doing by making note of how many students sport orange and black jerseys on campus in any given week. You’ll recall, no doubt, that there were plenty of Bengals shirts everywhere the day of the 2007 Monday Night Football home opener against Baltimore. Since then, though, they’ve been somewhat scarce. Now, with the Bengals once again losing game after game, we’re anticipating very few jersey sightings between now and the holidays.

Let’s ask then. Where have all of the orange and black jerseys disappeared to? What’s happened to the Bengals anyway? Here at The Hawk's Eye, we don’t presume to know everything about what’s gone wrong this year but we do know a thing or two about football and we’re here to tell you that the Bengals’ shortcomings have everything to do with their not understanding the basics of the game they play. Call them the three cardinal rules of football. The great clubs live and die by these rules. The also-rans act like they’ve never heard of them. We worry, sometimes, whether Bengal fans even know these rules. So, just in case you’re in the dark about them, we offer them here as public service. So, here they are. Disregard them at your peril.
