Register Now to Adopt a Tree on Oct. 6

On Saturday, Oct. 6 the Middletown Tree Commission will give away 50 large trees, each 4 - 10 feet tall. Any Middletown resident interested in obtaining one of these trees must fill out an adoption contract, which will help to determine which of 30 varieties of tree will be selected for that home or business owner.

Only one tree per city residence is available and all trees will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Those adopting a tree agree to care for it for at least two years. Tree pick-up will take place on Oct. 6 at the City's Tree Nursery in Smith Park. Boy Scout Troop 20 will be available from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 to assist those who need help in moving or planting their tree.

"This is the best way to increase the number of healthy trees in Middletown," said Middletown Tree Commission Chair Carolyn Keiffer. "All we ask is that those adopting one of these trees water it when it really needs it for the first two years so that it can grow to become an asset to the property and a benefit to the City."

Tree adoption contracts are available at Armbruster's Florist on Grand Avenue, at the Johnston Hall information desk at Miami Middletown or at the Middletown Public Library. Forms are also available online at www.ci.middletown.oh.us/docs/news/122.pdf.

This project is made possible by support from the City of Middletown Tree Commission, the Barnitz Foundation, Boy Scout Troop 20 and volunteers from Bull's Run Arboretum.
