Mid-Day Food Service Available This Summer

Miami Middletown will have mid-day food service available in Hawk Haven through the end of Summer III (August 2nd). This is a pilot project for the campus, the first time we have had food service other than vending available during the summer. A rotating menu of lighter fare options, including sandwiches, salads, fresh fruit, wraps, and soup are available from 11 am to 1:30 pm, Monday through Thursday.

2006-07 Student Awards Announced

Miami University Middletown recently announced its departmental and leadership/service awards for 2006/2007.

Departmental awards for academic achievement at Miami Middletown included:

Evans, Pettus Receive MUM Scholar-Athlete Award

Miami Middletown student athletes Jonathan Evans and Shelby Pettus have been named recipients of the 2007 C. Eugene Bennett Award at Miami University Middletown.

Evans, a freshman from Springboro majoring in business, is a member of the MUM baseball team. He earned Academic All-Conference honors this year with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He is the son of David and Becky Evans of Springboro.

Pettus, a sophomore sports studies major from Monroe, is a member of the MUM women's basketball team. She has earned Academic All-Conference for the past two years and currently has a GPA of 3.9. She is the daughter of Skip and Marsha Pettus of Monroe.

The C. Eugene Bennett Award was established in 1985 in honor of Dr. Bennett, Miami University Middletown's first executive director (1965-1986), in recognition of his emphasis on scholarship and his strong support of the Middletown campus athletic program. This award is presented annually to the male and female student athletes with the highest grade point average for the academic year.

Scholar-athletes Jonathan Evans and Shelby Pettus received the C. Eugene Bennett Award for 2007.

Campus to Host May 31 Blood Drive

Miami University Middletown will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 31 in Johnston Hall Room 142. Donors must be at least 17 and 110 pounds, be in good general health and must bring a photo I.D. with their full name. Miami Middletown Graduates 47 in 2007 Nursing Class

Tina Gregory received the Ruth Ann Busald Award for academic excellence and leadership potential. Melinda Howell received the Nightingale Award, nominated by faculty or students. Melinda Howell, Elizabeth Pfunder and Jon Tyson were awarded Clinical Achievement Awards for their ability to exercise nursing judgment in clinical situations.

Miami University Middletown Receives Marketing Awards

Miami University Middletown's Director of Marketing Communications Michael Williams has received the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations' (NCMPR) highest award, the Paragon. This marks the third consecutive year he has been honored by the organization for marketing materials he developed for the Middletown campus. This is the second year he has received top honors. Williams joined Miami University Middletown in 2004.

NCMPR represents marketing and PR professionals from more than 600 community, technical and junior colleges across the United States, Canada and the Bahamas.

Courtney Curtner Named Darbyshire Winner

Miami University Middletown honors student Courtney Curtner has been named the recipient of the W. Lynn Darbyshire Award for 2006-2007. The Darbyshire award is given each year to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in a student organization, student advisory council, student employment, community service or campus committee assignment.

Curtner, from West Carrollton, is a junior in the School of Fine Arts. She was treasurer and is now president-elect of Miami Middletown's Student Government. She also writes for the campus' student newspaper, is a photographer for creative arts magazine, and is a member of the Pandora's Box Classics Club. Last year she was actively involved in a student spring break trip to Italy and Greece and in bringing a "Guerilla Girl" to campus to speak on women in the arts. She has also received the Service Leadership Award and Student of the Month Award.
