Katie Henry Named Student of the Month

Katie Henry has been named Student of the Month for November at Miami University Middletown. The junior from Middletown is majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Henry was nominated for the award for her ability to incorporate her newly acquired classroom skills into her job at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village. She recently brought 15 Mt. Pleasant residents to the Fantastic Free Fridays performance of A Christmas Carol.

"Henry is one of those special students who immediately apply what they learn. I have met some of her senior citizen friends from Mount Pleasant and they tell me how much they appreciate her. Adding more music to their lives has drawn them into the community and given them joy," said Music Instructor Susan Joyce, who made the nomination. "She also enriched our class by inviting a Russian friend to share her culture with us, as Katie taught us a Russian dance. These are just two examples of how she sees the importance of music and people, and I am delighted that she has received this recognition."

Henry maintains a high GPA and will be on the Dean's List for fall semester. She is the daughter of Rick and Kathy Henry of Middletown

The Student of the Month award is given in recognition of students who make a significant contribution to the campus either in or out of the classroom.

Let it Snow!

If the weather outside is frightful, there are several ways to check for closings and cancellations at Miami Middletown.

First, this web site. We will post closings, cancellations and late starts on this web page. Click on "Weather Update" under the News column (far left) for the latest information.

Next, our weather phone line at 727-3477. This phone line lists cancellations by morning, afternoon and evening classes.

Last, listen to radio or television announcements. Of course this applies only to campus-wide closings or postponements, not to individual classes. The radio stations we supply information to include: WMOH(1450), WLW(700), WPFB(910)and WHIO(1290) AM; and WMUB(88.5), WOXY(97) and WPFB(105.9) FM. We also notify most Cincinnati and Dayton television stations.

New this year, we will also be using the Miami Emergency Text Messaging System in the event that our campus closes. However, you must register your cell phone number to receive an emergency text alert. Please go to muohio.edu/police, click on the Emergency Text Message icon and follow the instructions.
