Sinclair, Miami Agree on Dual Admissions for Engineering TechnologiesRepresentatives of Sinclair Community College and the Middletown and Hamilton campuses of Miami University have announced a dual-admission agreement for Engineering Technology students. The agreement allows Sinclair's Associate Degree Engineering Technology students to transfer to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology programs at Miami Middletown and Miami Hamilton.
The agreement was announced jointly by Robert E. Speckert, Professor and Chair of the Department of Engineering Technology at Miami's regional campuses, and Dr. George Sehi, Dean of Engineering and Industrial Technologies at Sinclair. The dual-admission agreement is only between the Engineering Technologies programs of the two schools. The initial programs to be implemented will be Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Automation and Control Engineering Technology.
"This agreement clarifies the status, treatment and benefits for students who choose to transfer from Sinclair to either of these Miami campuses after completing one of the dual-admissions programs covered in the articulation agreement," said Sinclair's Dr. Sehi.
The determination of requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology will be the responsibility of the Miami campuses.
"We are pleased to have this Dual Admission agreement with Sinclair Community College," said Miami's Professor Speckert. "This agreement further facilitates the pathway for students to complete their associate degree at Sinclair then continue seamlessly into the bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology at Miami University. What's great for the students is that our bachelor's degree can be completed during the evenings. This enables students to work while going to school or they can complete the bachelor's degree portion as a full time student."
Sinclair students who wish to take advantage of the program will apply for admission to Sinclair and Miami University Hamilton or Middletown simultaneously. Credits will be officially transferred with Sinclair quarter hours converted to Miami semester hours.
Sinclair students continuing to Miami's Middletown and Hamilton campuses will participate in an assessment program and orientation, advising and registration programs. Sinclair students will have access to any student services afforded to all Miami students including library resources, academic advising and other similar resources. They will be issued a Miami I.D. card and the Miami application fee will be waived.
Sinclair curriculum included in the transfer agreement includes some English, Communication Arts, Economics, Math, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering Technologies courses.
Students interested in learning more about the Sinclair-Miami dual-admission program should contact Karen Blake at (937) 512-2282 or karen.blake@sinclair.edu.

Rabbit Hash Band to Perform on March 24Miami University Middletown's Fantastic Free Fridays will continue its sixth season on Friday, March 24 with a performance at 10 a.m. by the Rabbit Hash String Band.
The Rabbit Hash String Band features the twin fiddles of Tommy Taylor and Warren Waldron, the claw hammer banjo of Russ Childers, with Judy Waldron and Barb Childers rounding out the sound on guitar and banjo uke. The band developed from a shared love that these long-time old-time friends have for the 1920s and '30s music of Gid Tanner and his Skillet Lickers band.
Miami Middletown began the Fantastic Free Fridays programs in the fall of 2000, offering free one-hour performances to schools in a five-county area. Since that time, more than 15,000 young people have had the opportunity to experience jazz and big band music, a marching band, theatre, opera, ballet and world music.
A generous donation from the Bever family of Oxford is again helping to support the Fantastic Free Fridays program.
Fantastic Free Fridays performances are open to the public. Groups interested in attending performances should contact Susan Joyce, music faculty member at Miami University Middletown, at joyces@muohio.edu, or by voice mail at 727-3415. This performance is appropriate for all ages.
