Boys of the Lough to Perform A Celtic ChristmasThe Boys of the Lough will perform A Celtic Christmas at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 at Miami University Middletown's Dave Finkelman Auditorium.
A Celtic Christmas combines Christmas songs and instrumentals from throughout the British Isles and Ireland with fascinating stories of the history of the Celtic musical tradition. This show brings to life the Celtic Christmas tradition that combines family appeal, historical intrigue, brilliant musicianship, and "a touch of the different."
The Boys of the Lough are the first of the full-time professional Celtic ensembles to arise on the international scene, and now occupy a unique position of respect in the world of traditional music. Their repertoire covers the instrumental and vocal traditions of Ireland, Scotland, the Shetland Islands and North America.

Raise Gospel Choir to Perform on December 1Miami Middletown continues its "Fantastic Free Fridays" program with a performance by the Raise Gospel Choir on Friday, December 1 at 10 a.m. in the Dave Finkelman Auditorium.
Columbus, Ohio's Raise Choir, under the direction of Dr. Raymond Wise, will perform a varied repertoire of music including spirituals, choral music, hymns and traditional and contemporary gospel music. Since 1986, Raise Choir has performed extensively throughout the United States and in Germany, Austria and Portugal. Over the years, the various members of Raise Choir have performed background vocals for numerous national recording artists and appeared in touring gospel musical productions.
The "Fantastic Free Fridays" series of performances is designed to provide opportunities for schools, area seniors and Miami Middletown students to enjoy a wide variety of performances during the week. A special thank you is extended to the Bever family for their support of this series.
All Fantastic Free Fridays events are free and open to the public.

Symphonic Band Holiday Concert December 3The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band will be performing their annual free holiday concert at Miami University Middletown on Sunday, December 3 at 2:30 pm in the Dave Finkelman Auditorium.
The band, directed by Chris Brandenburg, will play An Original Suite by Gordon Jacob, Sacred Suite by Brant Karrick, an arrangement of Greensleeves by Alfred Reed, as well as Russian Christmas Music, Christmas Festival and a holiday favorite - Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride. The concert will salute the Shriners organization with Shriners On Parade and The Thunderer March.
The Southwestern Ohio Symphonic Band is in its thirty-ninth year and currently features 90 musicians. William Stiehl, retired Coordinator of Fine Arts for the Middletown City School District, started the band in 1967.
Band director Chris Brandenburg also serves as band director at Lakota West High School and as Coordinator of Instrumental Music for the Lakota School District.
This event is free and open to the public.

Salsa Caliente Returns to Miami MiddletownSalsa Caliente, Cincinnati's award-winning Latin band, returns to Miami Middletown for an evening of Latin music and dancing at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18.
Made up of musicians from Cincinnati, Puerto Rico, Columbia, Mexico and Peru, Salsa Caliente puts on a high-energy show full of salsas, mambos and meringues perfect for dancing. The event will be held in Miami Middletown's new Campus Community Center in Johnston Hall and promises to go on until midnight.

Golic Named Student of the MonthKathryn Golic has been named Miami Middletown Student of the Month for September. The sophomore from Hamilton is majoring in Early Childhood Education.
Golic was nominated for the award for her outstanding commitment to community service. She was involved in "Make your Mark for Katrina" service project on the Miami Middletown campus. She was also cited for her work with Toys for Tots, community food and clothing drives, and her continuing work with a local Girl Scout troop.
She has most recently been involved in a "mail art" project, creating and sending art to young people in Toronto's Jane-Finch Corridor.
Golic maintains a high GPA while working part-time. "She is anexcellent example of a student who balances work, school, and familyand still makes time to serve her community," said nominator Dr. Susan Brown, MUM Academic Advisor.
The Student of the Month award is given in recognition of students who make a significant contribution to the campus either in or out of the classroom.

Tour and Talk for Nursing, Science MajorsA special Tour and Talk for students who want to major in nursing or science will be held at Miami Middletown on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The program will include tours of the facilities and discussions about educational opportunities at Miami Middletown, along with presentations on how to enroll and how to apply for financial aid.
