Bever Family Grant revives Reflections TroupeBringing back their dramatic exploration of issues-family relationships, substance abuse, the problems of growing up and of aging-the acting troupe, Reflections, returns to southwest Ohio.
In its service role to schools, social and church groups, and government and private agencies of all kinds, the troupe will perform free of charge due to a generous grant from its sponsors, the Bever family of Oxford. The troupe will perform as an outreach effort of Hamilton and Middletown campuses of Miami University.
Reflections is directed by Miami Theatre Department member Betsey Knight, who works in cooperation with Victor Harrison, former director of Clinical Counseling at LifeSpan in Hamilton. From 1994 to 1999, Reflections was available at no charge to organizations in the area, supported then by the Butler County Mental Health Board. Since 1999, the troupe has continued to perform, but, because there was a fee, clients, according to Knight, "went pretty far south." With the Bever grant, Reflections is, as Harrison says, "back at our old stand with a new face, Miami University."
Performances will be available after September 1. For further information and scheduling details, contact Betsey Knight at 513-523-4655.

Include Season of Life in your summer reading listMiami University Hamilton and Middletown are joining with a host of area organizations to encourage community members to include Season of Life, a book written by Pulitzer Prize winner Jeffrey Marx, on their summer reading list.
The book, available at Miami Hamilton and Middletown bookstores, examines what it means to become a man of character and responsibility. The book's life-changing message comes to Butler County July 21 when Cincinnati Reds' player Sean Casey, Joe and Kim Nuxhall present a free rally at Fairfield High School Arena.
Casey, who was profoundly moved by the book, wanted to help spread its message. He purchased 2,000 copies to give out at the rally. In addition, event organizers are encouraging people to get a copy of the book now, read it and pass it along to friends. To learn more about the project, log on to www.journal-news.com.
