Admission Counselor at Towne Mall Dec. 3 and 4

An admission counselor from Miami University Middletown will be at Towne Mall from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4. Miami Middletown will waive the admission fee of $35 for those who submit their application at the mall at this time.

The counselor will be able to provide information on the application process, registration, academic programs and services and financial aid. Spring semester classes begin at Miami Middletown on January 9, 2006.

Scholarship for Women Students at Miami University Middletown.

Women students are encouraged to apply for a $1,000 Soroptimist Scholarship given by the Middletown Soroptimist Club. The scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, freshman, sophomore or junior, Miami University female student who is under age 25 and has at least a 3.0 GPA. The deadline to receive applications is January 1, 2006. Click here to print the scholarship application.

Note that this scholarship application requires two reference letters and a recent transcript.

The Financial Summary Page is attached to the application. After you sign the upper portion of that form, bring it to the Financial Aid Office at the Middletown Campus by December 15 to assure that we have time to complete it for you before the holiday.

Please consider taking the time to apply for this and our other Miami Middletown scholarships. Soroptimist International of Middletown will award their scholarship in February. It may be used during the summer term or the following fall.

Howard, Schorman Receive Teaching Award

Lizz Howard and Rob Schorman have been chosen to receive the 2005-2006 Miami University Middletown GCCCU Celebration of Teaching Award. They will be honored at a banquet and awards ceremony at Xavier University on Nov. 11.

Howard, an assistant professor in the Computer and Information Technology Department, began teaching at Miami University in 1995. Prior to this she worked at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, Cal; Tektronix, Inc. in Dayton; and EG&G Mound Applied Technologies in Miamisburg.

One of her nominators said that "In a department where each faculty member takes pride in being a good teacher, Lizz is the best of the best."

She received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Wright State University and an M.S.A. in Systems Analysis from Miami University.

Schorman, an assistant professor in the History Department, joined Miami University in 2001. Prior to this he taught American History at Indiana University. He received a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Michigan, M.A. in American History from Indiana University and Ph.D. in American History from Indiana University.

A nominator wrote that "wherever you find targeted efforts to improve teaching and learning at Middletown, you are most likely to find Rob at the core of these activities."

His latest book is Selling Style : Clothing and Social Change at the Turn of the Century.

Holiday Bazaar Set for Dec. 2, 3

Get a head start on the holidays at Miami Middletown's Fourth Annual Holiday Bazaar, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 and 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 in Verity Lodge.

The Bazaar, which will benefit the "Feed the Hungry" project at Middletown's Dream Center, will feature home made crafts, as well as holiday centerpieces, baked goods, fudge, hot cider and the traditional "MUM Yum" tree.

This event is sponsored by Miami Middletown's C.I.V.I.C. (Campus Involved Volunteers in the Community) organization. For more information, call (513) 727-3200.

Miami Middletown Honored with Marketing Awards

Miami University Middletown Marketing Communications Director Michael Williams has been honored with two Medallion Awards from District Three of the National Council for Public Relations and Marketing (NCMPR).

He received a gold award for the campus's Cultural Arts Brochure and a bronze award for its Viewbook. The Medallion Awards recognize outstanding achievement in communications at community, junior and technical colleges in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada.

Williams joined Miami Middletown in 2004. Earlier this year he won a Paragon, the top award in NCMPR's national competition.

Fall Campus Visit Day is Nov. 12

Miami Middletown will host its Fall Campus Visit Day at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Johnston Hall.

Topics will include the application process, financial aid and scholarships, academic programs, student support services and campus life. Discussions will include options for first-time, transfer and adult students. Parents and spouses are encouraged to attend. Each prospective student will receive a free "Aspire" T-shirt and magazine.

Hoop Hysteria Hits on Monday!

Show your support as the Miami University Middletown ThunderHawk Basketball Teams kickoff their season. Join the fun at Hoop Hysteria at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 in the Bennett Rec. Center.

Free t-shirts will be given to the first 40 students in attendance. Free Miami gear will be given to everyone in attendance.

A Miami Middletown counselor will also be at Towne Mall from 1-4 p.m. on Nov. 19, 20, 26, 27 and Dec. 3 and 4. Towne Mall is located at Interstate 75 and State Route 122.
