Public Input On Regional Campuses Sought

A Miami University task force wants community input as it continues to examine issues affecting the Hamilton and Middletown campuses, including whether or not the regional campuses offer the appropriate mix of degree programs.

The task force, established this fall under the authority of the Miami University First in 2009 Coordinating Council, is addressing the following charges:

* Identify the most important issues facing the regional campuses that need attention, prioritize them, and develop recommendations for action;

* Consider the most appropriate relationships among the three campuses;

* Determine the strategic and programmatic directions for the regional campuses, including the appropriate mix of degree programs and the appropriate degree of outreach and public service.

There will be six open forums to solicit comments and recommendations. The general public, students, faculty and staff on all three campuses are invited to participate in the open forum most convenient for them. The six forums are scheduled for:

* January 20, noon-1 p.m., at Miami Middletown, in the Johnston Hall

* January 20, 3:30-4:30 p.m., at Miami Middletown, in the Johnston Hall

* January 24, 3-4 p.m., at Miami Hamilton, in the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center

* January 24, 5-6 p.m., at Miami Hamilton, in the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center

* February 4, noon-1 p.m., at Miami Oxford, in the Benjamin Harrison Room of the Shriver Center. This forum will focus on discussion with relocated students.

* February 4, 3-4 p.m., at Miami Oxford, in 111 Harrison Hall

The task force is tri-chaired by Judith Delzell, interim associate provost; Daniel Hall, executive director of the Hamilton campus; and Mike Governanti, executive director of the Middletown campus. Other members include Marilyn Anderson, Miami Middletown, nursing; Donald Byrkett, Miami Oxford, computer science and systems analysis; David Hergert, Miami Hamilton, engineering technology; Rebecca Hickam, graduate assistant at Miami Middletown; Cynthia Lewiecki-Wilson, Miami Oxford, English; Diana Royer, Miami Hamilton, English; and Rob Schorman, Miami Middletown, history.

According to Hall, "this is important to the future of the regional campuses. We want to examine how the three campuses of Miami can better meet the needs of the community and the region."
