Internet Ministry Workshop First in Church Business Series

Miami University Middletown will present a series of three workshops for church leaders, beginning with a half-day session on Internet Ministry on Friday, Jan. 31.

Mark Stephenson, Director of CyberMinistry at Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church in Tipp City, will conduct this workshop. Those attending will discover how to use the Internet as a tool to expand their ministries while maintaining a personal, meaningful message.

"According to our statistics our site (www.ginghamsburg.com) receives about 70,000 visits each month," said Stephenson. "We commonly have 20 sermon video streams going at once and we have over 3000 people registered on our on-line communities.

"The majority of the visitors to our site are people outside our congregation. We believe that the majority of our web site guests attend church and use our site to supplement their Christian growth. We also know that many pastors use our site for personal growth. We know of people from as far away as Australia who view our sermons on-line each week and identify closely with our church, but still attend a local church. The preaching and teaching on our site will always promote involvement in a local church and service to others.

"Our experience is that the web is a safe place that leads to entry into a physical church, not an encouragement to stay away. We've had several people say that they viewed multiple sermons on our site before attending our church in person."

The Internet Ministry workshop, which costs $69, will be held from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at Miami University Middletown. The next workshops in the series are Income Taxes and the Church on Friday, Feb. 14 and a Church Leadership Conference on Friday, March 14.

For more information or to register, call Miami Middletown's Office of Continuing Education at (513) 727-3300.
