Using Laptops at the Library

The library is designed as both an interactive forum for finding, discussing, and using information, and also as a relaxed setting for reflection, writing, and working on assignments. We encourage you to use laptops to pursue either of these ends.

Where Can I Use a Laptop?
Laptops may be used on the main floor of the library or in our Group Study Area on the lower level.

Need an Outlet?
Look for the orange "Laptop Zone" signs which identify easy to reach electrical outlets.

Is Wireless Available?
Wireless network access is available throughout the building. If you have a wireless network card in your laptop, just start your web browser to bring up the Wireless Access to MUnet (WAM) login page.

If you are a Miami student, faculty, or staff member, enter your Unique ID and password to login.

Guests on campus may enter their email addresses for limited access.

How About Ethernet Access?
If you have a non-wireless network card on your laptop, you may still access the network by plugging your network cable into an Ethernet connection. Look for the yellow "Still Wired?" signs for a spot to plug in. Keep in mind that only Miami students, faculty, and staff with a Unique ID and password will be able to login to the network.

What If I Do Not Have a Laptop?
The library has laptops available to check out to Miami students, faculty, or staff members for a three hour loan. Stop by our front desk with a valid driver's license to use one.

Can I Print From a Laptop?
The library's laptops are already configured to print to one of our public printers. Other laptops with network connections may be configured to print to public network printers. If you wish to print from a laptop without a network card, let one of our staff members know and we will assist you.
