Information Literacy at Gardner-Harvey Library
At the Gardner-Harvey Library, we are committed to supporting your classroom mission by helping students become self-sufficient information seekers. The instruction sessions that
we offer are based on the
Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education as established by the
Association for College and Research Libraries. These standards are changing the culture of library instruction at academic libraries across the country. Our goal at GHL is to promote
these professionally recognized standards as a foundation for all Miami University Middletown students. We hope that providing a concise and cohesive guide to instruction topics will generate
awareness and support for a more formal information literacy instruction program in the future.
Information literacy sessions will be specially tailored to fit the needs of your students. To achieve this, we recommend that sessions correspond with a course assignment to provide students
with context for the skills to which they will be introduced. Please plan ahead! Requesting sessions at least one week in advance provides the librarian with time to prepare and also allows for
greater flexibility in scheduling. Contact Beth Tumbleson, Sarah Frye, or John Burke
for further information. We look forward to collaborating with you to strengthen student achievement.
