A Baker’s Dozen of Gardner-Harvey Library Tidbits, or Food for the Mind!
#13: The Library is NOT named “Gardner-Harvey” for the beloved MUM groundskeeper who died in a tulip planting accident, but rather for George Harvey and Colin Gardner, prominent Middletown businessmen.
#12: The Library is staffed by a talented team, who will provide individual research consultation, help you find information, or offer information literacy skills instruction in the classroom. Just ask in person, by telephone (513-727-3222), IM using Meebo askghl on the Library Page (http://www.mid.muohio.edu/library/), or e-mail.
#11: The Library offers a collection of free Textbooks on Reserve for over 70 Miami Plan or other introductory courses. Check them out for two hours at a time (or overnight). Get course-specific books, articles, DVDs/Videos, and CDs that instructors place on reserve at the Front Desk as well.
#10: Yes, the Library has wifi. We loan laptops to Miami students for one-day use, and to faculty and staff for longer periods. We also loan digital cameras, digital video cameras, and digital voice recorders.
#9: Access a wealth of library electronic resources 24/7 from home or anywhere you have Internet access with just your Unique ID and Password.
#8: Borrow library materials from any of the Miami University Libraries in Hamilton and Oxford. Once you request the item, it is shipped free and can be picked up here at the Front Desk. You can even request library materials from around the state via OhioLINK, a consortium of 90 member libraries, chiefly academic and a few public and seminary libraries. OhioLINK items can be picked up at the Front Desk also. No charge!
#7: You may sample an assortment of services that we offer: print, photocopy, fax, scan documents, or laminate.
#6: Adaptive technologies for the visually or hearing impaired are available. Ride the elevator between the main floor and lower level.
#5: Spaces you may inhabit include: computer workstations, study carrels, large tables, comfy laptop chairs and couches, computer lab, large group study area on the lower level, and outdoor terrace with hillside view. The Library provides seating for approximately 180 people.
#4: Guess what, you may feed the body—eat and drink—while you nourish the mind, as long as you “leave no trace”.
#3: The Gardner-Harvey Library collection in print includes 50,000 books; 250 magazines, journals, and newspapers; plus DVDs, videos, and Playaway audio books. Through the Miami and OhioLINK electronic collections, you may access 24/7 more than 200 full-text databases, 30,000 electronic journals, 26,000 eBooks, and audio, digital video, and image collections.
#2: Stay current by reading the Library Blog and reviewing the monthly new materials list. Learn more by enrolling in a 2 credit Sprint course: EDT 251 Effective Use of Libraries.
#1: The Library offers a very cool Community Borrower card free to residents of the greater Middletown area.
