Scholarships FAQ
When should I apply?
You should submit the Application for Scholarship according to the following deadline:
March 15 for all new Admission applicants and returning students.
Note: Applications must be postmarked by the deadline date.
What are my chances of receiving a scholarship if I apply?
Students with outstanding academic records and demonstrated leadership, creativity and motivation are encouraged to apply. The highest-ranking 25 percent of our applicants receive scholarships. Graduate students and those working on a second undergraduate degree are not eligible for these scholarships.
Are family finances considered?
The initial decision to award a scholarship is based on personal and academic achievement. For most scholarships, financial need is a factor and may influence your ability to receive a scholarship and the size of the award. Your financial need will be determined from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
For more information on need-based aid, see the financial aid section of this site. Need-based scholarships are not normally enough assistance for students with limited resources; the primary source of aid for these students will be state and federal aid programs.
Is my admission date important for the scholarship decision?
Yes. You must submit all necessary admission materials prior to the scholarship deadline.
How large are these scholarships?
Scholarship awards normally range from $100-4,500. Your success in the competition and, at times, your financial need, determine the amount of the scholarship.
Are these scholarships renewable?
some scholarships are multiple-year scholarships. They are generally renewable with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Additional details are given in the award letter.
Are special talents considered?
Yes. While all merit-based scholarship recipients are well-rounded students with extracurricular activities, if you have a special talent, such as artistic ability or writing skills and have received recognition on a city-wide, state or national level, please give the committee that information on your application.
How are selections made?
Applications are reviewed by members of the University Scholarship review committees. This evaluation of your application will be used to rank you among all other applicants. Ranking is based primarily on personal essay, your letter of recommendation, and one or more of the following: high school GPA and/or rank, your highest ACT/SAT score, your GED score, or your current college GPA.
When will I be notified?
The review of applications begins as soon as you are reviewed for admission and we receive your scholarship application and recommendation. Most students will be notified if they have received a scholarship award no later than May 15. However, some scholarships with special criteria will be awarded at a later date.
