The Leadership Collaborative of the CTL includes a broad representation of the many teaching assignments that people fill at MUM. The current LC includes tenured and tenure-track full-time faculty members, staff with teaching responsibilities, and part-time faculty. A variety of disciplines is represented, as are various pedagogical interests. The LC meets weekly and is responsible for staffing, programming, and policy decisions of the CTL. Each member serves a two-year term and can apply for re-appointment.

Self-nominations for a two-year term on the LC beginning in Fall 2008 are now OPEN. For more details on the duties and selection of the Leadership Collaborative, including information on how to apply, click here (pdf version) or here (Microsoft Word document).

Current LC members include:

Tammy Allen

Senior Instructor, Spanish. I have been teaching introductory and intermediate Spanish classes at Miami Middletown since 1989. I also teach occupational Spanish classes for the Office of Continuing Education. My pedagogical interests encompass intercultural communication, communication across the curriculum, and the use of technology in teaching and learning. The project that I wish to develop is an integrated campus-wide teaching/learning program based on the reading of a common text.

Lizz Howard

Associate Professor, Computer and Informatiion Technology. I joined the faculty of Miami in 1995, first as a visiting instructor and then as a tenure-track professor. I teach a variety of computing classes including programming, computer architecture, and information technology ethics. I am interested in incorporating pedagogical approaches to communication, cooperation, and collaboration, especially since the traditional approach to teaching computing is to emphasize (and value) only technical skills. My project for the CTL is to create practical methods to incorporate the theme of "communication, cooperation, and collaboration" into our classrooms without sacrificing course content.

Chris Metcalf

Lecturer, Accountancy. I joined Miami’s faculty in 2000 after 26 years in financial management with Cincinnati area companies. I earned my undergraduate degree from Miami, and a MBA from Indiana University. Shortly after completing my graduate work, I also earned my CPA credentials. My teaching interests include the identification of best practices across a broad spectrum of academic disciplines, with the aim of adapting, where applicable, such practices in the classroom. I am also interested in exploring the possible pedagogical linkage created by Corporate Sustainability Reporting between accountancy and the various social and natural science disciplines.

Rob Schorman

Associate Professor, History. I have been teaching American History at MUM since 2001. My major pedagogical interests include the use of classroom technology, collaborative learning, communication across the curriculum, and assessment of student learning. For the past three years I have also been co-facilitator of the MUM Communication Across the Curriculum Faculty Learning Community.

Alana Van Gundy-Yoder

Visiting Professor, Political Science. I have been at the Middletown campus since 2003 teaching courses in the Sociology Department but have recently transferred to the Political Science Department. I earned degrees in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, and am ABD in Sociology/Criminology. Currently I teach Criminal Justice and Criminology courses at both of MiamiÕ\’s regional campuses and Butler Tech. My academic interests include: life-course trajectories of female offenders, corrections evaluation, and law enforcement ethics. My pedagogical interests revolve around the use of technology in teaching and learning, part-time faculty initiatives, and plagiarism prevention tactics.

Ellenmarie Wahlrab

Instructor in English / MUM Curriculum Coordinator. This is my eleventh year at Middletown, where I teach composition courses, women’s memoir and the writing studio, all for the English Department. I hold a hybrid appointment at Miami Middletown, Instructor in English and Coordinator of Curriculum Development. In the latter role my recent and current projects include working on scheduling initiatives and the Bachelor Degree Task Force as well as developing assessment protocols for several curricular areas. I am also beginning my fourth year as a coordinator of the CTL Leadership Collaborative. I continue to co-facilitate our annual Communication Across the Curriculum Faculty Learning Community (aka the CAC FLC) and to coordinate the Small Group Instructional Diagnosis program.

And our student assistant:

Kate Duskey

My name is Kate Duskey and I am the new Student Assistant of the CTL LC. I am in the middle of my second year at Miami University Middletown. My major is Health Education, while keeping in mind Elementary Education. I have really enjoyed being a part of the CTL and am eager to learn more about all of the different techniques of teaching so that I can use it towards my own future in education.
