October

October 18, 12:00-1:00, Johnston Hall room 117:
"Community-Based Learning for Administrators, Instructors, Students, and Community Agencies."

If you are an administrator, instructor, or staff person who has ever wondered what community-based learning is all about, how it works in the classroom and the university, and the benefits and challenges of implementing CBL courses, this lunch seminar is for you. A panel of speakers from Northern Kentucky University (E. Miles Wilson, Director of the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement at NKU, Professor Barbara Wallace, Coordinator of Service-Learning and Director of the Freedom-Focused Service-Learning program, and Diana Mondragon, one of Dr. Wallace’s students) will discuss the Civic Engagement program at NKU, including an in-depth look at one of Dr. Wallace’s service-learning courses, “College Writing,” and insights on the service-learning experience from her student.

>> For a preview of Dr. Wallace's presentation on her class, the following documents are available (copies will be distributed at the seminar, as well):
    ** Course syllabus (.doc)
    ** Course weekly schedule (.doc)
    ** Course journal topics (.doc)
