We Need Bodies
The CBLI has a lot of big ideas, but not enough people to help make our
ideas a reality as quickly as we'd like. Click the About Us link to your
left to read about who we are and what we're up to, and if you're interested
in participating in our organization's efforts, please drop us a line: melbyee@muohio.edu.
What They're Saying about Community-Based Learning*
“…the students who [worked with a community group] reported
that it was one of the best educational experiences they ever had…
these students also performed better on their classroom work, an interesting
correlation.”
--Greg Downey, instructor
“…it is a natural way to ‘up the bar’ of academia
because it requires that students actually demonstrate what they are learning.
Plus, the students and community members partake in a circular web of teaching
and learning…making the whole experience a comprehensive, long-term
learning experience that does not end when a bell rings…it fosters
a sense of commitment to ‘community’ for post-graduation.”
--Kristen Kosidow, student
“We find that our volunteers…take their work much more seriously
and reflect on their experience a lot more. Students also bring the information
they learn in class to help with their work. We often hire new staff members
from the students who serve here…These students come out much better
prepared to work in the field because they have been able to apply their
coursework to life.”
