Getting Started
Contracts
You should have signed and then received a completely signed copy of a contract specifying the courses you are teaching and the salary assigned. If you have not yet signed a contract, or you have not received the copy back, please contact Kelli D. Bray at (513) 727-3388.
Paychecks
Miami University requires paychecks be direct deposit. Faculty are paid at the end of the month. Upon timely completion of your personnel paperwork, your first paycheck stub should arrive at the end of the first full month of the semester—September or January. Questions concerning required paperwork can also be directed to Kelli D. Bray at (513) 727-3388.
Unique ID and Banner Plus Number
Once all the paperwork is completed and processed, you will receive a unique
ID and Banner Plus Number. You'll find that you use both of these identifiers
often but for different purposes. The unique ID allows you to log in to Miami's
computer network and perform a variety of password-protected functions
and activities. Your Banner Plus Number is used for administrative services
including payroll and travel reimbursement. To learn more about your unique
ID, go the MU Knowledge Base and enter the
following numbers in the Case ID text box: 14967.
Password
When you access any Miami administrative system for the first time, if you are using the default MUnet/Novell login password (2-digit birth month and 2-digit birth day and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number), Miami web-based services will require that you change your password. You will not be able to use Miami services until you change your password. You can follow the prompts to change your password. You may change your password at any time later as well. In fact, you are required to change your password after every 180 days you are on the system. You will see prompts that direct you to do this. For more about passwords, go the MU Knowledge Base and enter the following numbers in the Case ID text box: 1731.
Parking
Faculty/staff parking permits cost $30 for one year (or $15 for one semester). It permits you to park on any lot on any of the three campuses. Permits are available cashier’s window in Johnston Hall.
Mailboxes
You will have a mailbox in the faculty support area of the building where you
usually teach. While many campus announcements are sent by e-mail, some are
hard copy, and those — along with incoming “snail mail” —
will be directed to you via your mail box.
E-Mail
Once a person is “in the system,” he or she has a university e-mail
account. Please note that all Miami Middletown instructional personnel are expected to check their Miami e-mail and physical mailboxes regularly during the semester when they are teaching. The university moved to a new e-mail system in the summer of 2007, and the best way to find more information about it is to go to the MU Knowledge Base and and search for “muConnect.”
Telephone
Each office has a telephone with its own number. To make calls within the University
(using a campus phone), preface the four-digit extension with a 7 for Middletown,
9 for Oxford, and 5 for Hamilton. For instance, from a campus phone you can
reach the main switchboard at MUM by dialing 7-3200 — from the outside
the number is 727-3200 (MUH 785-3000, Oxford 529-1809). From a campus phone, prefix your outside local number with 88 (e.g. 88-727-3200)
and prefix a long distance number with 81 (e.g., 81-513-529-1809).
Campus phones that will allow you to call anywhere on campus (or make emergency
911 calls) without charge are located in the hallways of every floor of Johnston,
Thesken and Levey, except the second floor of Johnson (a phone is available
in the Faculty Lounge).
Supplies
You can obtain general supplies, such as grade books, legal pads, overhead
markers, etc., at the Faculty Support Services offices In Johnston 205, Thesken
205 or Levey 111.
