Part-Time/Adjunct Faculty Handbook

Online Resources

This section is small because an endless list of links often seems too overwhelming to be useful. However, if you know of a Web site that you think would be particularly useful for your part-time colleagues, contact Rob Schorman (schormr@muohio.edu), and we’ll see about adding it to the list.

Web links for teaching

Teaching Tips from the Indiana State University Center for Teaching and Learning
Links to short, practical tips that range from increasing leading classroom discussions to handling personal stress.

A Berkeley Compendium of Suggestions for Teaching with Excellence
More than 200 practical tips, nicely organized, that formed the basis for the book Tools for Teaching by Barbara Gross Davis.

Web links for adjuncts

Adjunctnation.com
This is the online site developed by the publishers of Adjunct Advocate magazine. After a free registration, it provides access to a variety of relevant resources and forums.

The Adjunct Track
The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes occasional articles and commentaries about part-time faculty under the heading, “The Adjunct Track.” This link connects to an archive of past articles from this series.

The Nontenure Track
The link here is to the index page for discussion forums sponsored by the The Chronicle of Higher Education. Scroll down to “Nontenure Track” to read or post comments. The Chronicle describes the forum this way: “Talk about your experiences as an adjunct, visiting assistant professor, postdoc, or other contract faculty member.”
