Collection
The library combines its in-house collection (more than 50,000 books, DVDs, and videos and approximately 250 periodicals) with access to over 200 web-based databases and the ability to borrow materials from other Miami University libraries and 84 other Ohio colleges and universities. The databases are primarily periodical indexes and, in aggregate, offer full-text access to over 30,000 periodicals. Off-campus access to these resources is available to all students, faculty, and staff members (please see http://www.mid.muohio.edu/library/remote.cfm for details). Materials requested from other Miami libraries are typically available at our circulation desk in 2-3 business days, and items requested through OhioLINK (our statewide academic library consortium) are typically available in 3-4 business days. Just use the library’s catalog to locate items and then click the “Request Item” button to start the request process
Reserves
The library staff is happy to assist you in making course readings or other materials available through our reserve collections. Electronic reserves are a convenient way for students to access materials from home (linked either from the library’s site or from a web or Blackboard site). Please contact Joanne Howard with questions or see http://www.mid.muohio.edu/library/reserves.cfm. The library is also building a collection of textbooks on reserve (see http://www.mid.muohio.edu/library/textbooks.cfm for a full list of included courses).
Instruction Sessions for Classes
The library staff provides instructional sessions for classes on selected research tools and areas of the collection. The sessions are tailored to a given assignment and are designed to be interactive and hands-on for students. Please contact Beth Tumbleson or John Burke to schedule one for your class.
The Library Environment
The library offers 31 computer workstations for patron use and offers printing and copying at $.10 per page. The campus-wide wireless network can be accessed in the library for use with personal laptops. VCRs and DVD players are available, as are a document magnifier and an adaptive computer workstation for patrons with disabilities. A variety of individual and group study seating options are available, including seating for group use of computers. There is also a library instruction/computer lab which may be scheduled for classes or other meetings.
