You can complete an associate degree on a full-time or part-time basis at the Middletown campus. Some co-op opportunities are available. Our associate degrees were developed to give you the marketable skills employers need. These degrees offer a pathway to a bachelor's degree at Miami or another college depending on the major. Check with an academic counselor.
Associate in Applied Science
Chemical technology is the application of chemistry principles to everyday problems that confront industry, hospitals, and private and governmental laboratories. Chemical technicians are members of research and development teams that investigate new materials to determine their reactions, test for quality and performance, act as troubleshooters, and operate sophisticated laboratory instrumentation. Chemical technicians find careers in industrial laboratories, manufacturing plants, agricultural and clinical facilities, and energy production sites.
Computer and Information Technology focuses on the development and support of computing systems. The proliferation of computers into every aspect of business and industry has created a high demand for technically skilled professionals who can design computer programs and systems, support users, and provide administration and maintenance of computer networks. This demand is expected to grow into the next decade.
The Computer and Information Technology major allows you to choose one of two concentrations that are essential to computing: Software Development and Support or Networking. The software development and support concentration prepares students to design, create and maintain programs in a variety of current programming languages, understand and use operating systems, and use and support application programs. The networking concentration prepares students to design, install, support and maintain security for computer networks, maintain hardware and software, and analyze and trouble-shoot problems. Both concentrations lead to an Associate Degree in Applied Science - major in Computer and Information Technology.
The computer technology major, Computer Science and Systems Analysis Degree Program, is designed for students who wish to earn an associate degree and/or be prepared to earn a bachelors degree from the Computer Science and Systems Analysis Department. It enables students to obtain an Associate Degree in Applied Science by taking approximately half the courses for the Computer Science or Systems Analysis majors in the bachelors degree program. After completing the associate degree, students may relocate to the Oxford Campus and continue with junior standing. Those who wish to find employment after completing the associate degree are well-prepared for positions such as computer programmers and system support personnel. Students interested in this degree are encouraged to meet regularly with an adviser to assist them in choosing appropriate elective courses for their academic and career goals.
This program, accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET), includes course work in both electrical and electronic fields. It provides depth and breadth in electrical fundamentals as well as the advanced technology found in modern electrical and computing systems. Courses in analog, digital, and microprocessor-based systems are offered. Hands-on labs are used to reinforce concepts taught in the classroom. Students develop the ability to analyze, synthesize, and solve technical problems. Choice of course topics includes fundamentals of analog and digital electronics, relay logic, programmable controllers, microprocessors, personal computer architecture, disk operating system (DOS), WINDOWS™, UNIX™, local area networks (LAN), and wide area networks (WAN).
This program, accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET), emphasizes courses in computer-aided drafting (CAD), computer-aided engineering analysis and design, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), computer numerical control programming (CNC), and engineering mechanics. Courses include laboratory experiences working with modern materials-testing equipment; microcomputer-based engineering analysis software; CAD/CAM hardware and software; microprocessor-controlled robots; and a variety of engineering support software. Students develop the ability to analyze, synthesize, and solve technical problems.
This program, accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (61 Broadway, New York NY 10006; 800-669-1656), is a two-year curriculum that provides courses in liberal arts, sciences, and nursing.
