Community Resources
Community resources include:
Applied Research Center
The Applied Research Center is a major community-based resource center. Staff members participate in the ongoing study of issues which are of vital significance to:
- Government Agencies
- Human Service Agencies
- Citizen Groups
- Business/Industry
In 1985, an Academic Challenge Grant from the State of Ohio funded The Center through the Ohio Board of Regents. The grant covered a period of six years, and in 1991, it became self-supporting. Groups who use the research resources absorb the costs of their projects and a percentage of the overhead. In addition, external grants from both public and private sources are received. The types of projects the Center works on include community-based needs assessments and program evaluations.
Research methodologies are many:
- Telephone Surveys
- Focus Groups
- Mail Surveys
- Field Research
- Case Studies
Research projects are initiated in response to issues and concerns raised within the community. The results form a valuable database for making informed public policy decisions. Typical studies have included:
- Miami University Health Care Plan Satisfaction Survey
- Village of Monroe: Survey of Local Issues
- Middletown Community Foundation: Needs Assessment
- Middletown City School District: Opinion Survey of Registered Voters
- City of Middletown: Image of City Government and Services
- United Way, various studies
Dr. Robert Seufert is director of the center.
