Information for Faculty

Frequently asked questions

Who is responsible for placing textbook orders with the Bookstore?

In most cases, individual instructors are responsible for choosing their textbooks and giving that information to the Bookstore. In some cases, however, textbook decisions are made at the department level. In still others, individual instructors choose their texts but communicate that information to their department chair or other designated textbook liaison, who then collates it and sends it on to the Bookstore. If you’re unsure of the procedure you should follow, check with your department chair or coordinator.

How do I submit my order?

In order to minimize potential misunderstanding, the Bookstore asks that all textbook orders be submitted in writing. We e-mail Textbook Request Forms to faculty each semester. Preprinted Textbook Request Forms are available at the Bookstore or from the Faculty Secretary’s Office in perspective buildings.

Finally, you may download a copy of the Textbook Request Form here. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to open and print this form. Acrobat Reader is available free of charge from Adobe. You may also email your order to eldriddl@muohio.edu or fax it to the bookstore at 513-727-3435.

When are orders due?

Orders should be submitted by the following deadlines. If you are hired after these dates, please submit your order as soon as possible.

Spring Semester: October 1
Fall Semester: April 1
Summer Terms: March 15

Classes don’t start for several months. Why does the Bookstore want my order so early?

Textbooks are very expensive. Industry figures show that the average full time student can expect to spend upwards of $900 per year on required textbooks. One of the few avenues the bookstore has to help control these costs is to make available as many used books as possible. Used books can save students 25 percent or more over the cost of new books. But the supply of used books is limited and in high demand, and we’re competing with schools all over the country for the same small supply.

Turning your order in early gives us more time to search our network of used book suppliers and also allows us to pay higher prices to our current students during buy back for books that are being reused.

If you have any further questions, please contact Daphne Eldridge at eldriddl@muohio.edu.
